When we avoid carbohydrate from our diet, our liver will be forced to use fat for energy which will inturn produce ketones. This ketones will be used for energy instead of glucose. It is told that ketones are the best source of energy for brain when compared to glucose.

Keto diet has very low carbohydrate and high fat content. Hence the name low carbohydrate and high fat diet or LCHF.

Only less than 20 gram of carbohydrate is allowed in a keto diet or lchf diet.

Low carb diet was propogated in the world in different names before. Examples are Banding diet, Palio diet, Atkins diet etc.

Our ancestors never used sugar or other refined cereals to eat in stone age. Cereals has appeared in our diet very recently. Man has been living in Earth for more than 5 lakh years. But we started using cereals only 10000 years ago. To make it clear, its told that our genes are still not tolerated with our cereal intake yet. More over, refined cereals and sugar has been started to use only 200 years ago.

So keto diet follows the principle that fat and meat are the best for our body which was the food of our ancestors as well.

Your craving for food is lost and your will apetite will become normal.There is no need to count the calories in everything you eat. You can eat until you are satisfied with most nutritious food.

If you are on keto diet, there is no need to do exercise to reduce your weight.

When carbohydrates gets reduced in dietry intake, body will have reduced need of insulin. Increased amount of insulin in blood may cause block in blood vessels. Because of keto diet these blockages get removed and the risk for having heart diseases, stroke, kidney diseases etc gets reduced.

How to do keto diet?

Keto diet is a very simple one. Avoid all carbohydrate in your diet.

Cereals like rice, wheat, ragi, oats, pulses like tapioca, potato, sweet potato, beetroot, all sweet fruits, sugar etc need to be avoided.

Use pure natural fat and meat in controlled amounts. Eat butter, ghee, coconut oil, olive oil etc. You can also eat beef, mutton, fish and free range eggs. You can’t eat broiler chicken or organic chicken as most of them are corn fed.

You can eat all the vegetables except grams and beans. Nuts like Badam, Walnut, Brazil Nut and Hazel nut is also allowed.
